“The Tramp” fue escrita en 1913 por Joe Hill, es una de las canciones más famosas de este cantante y compositor. La letra de esta canción habla de cómo una persona desempleada merodea en los alrededores de la ciudad donde vive en busca de trabajo. Esta persona no es bienvenida en ningún lado, ni siquiera en el infierno. Con esta letra denota la situación que se vivía en ese entonces en cuanto al desempleo en estados unidos, incluso podría considerarse como una ejemplificación de su vida ya que él se encontró muchas veces en esta situación siendo una persona que aceptaba cualquier trabajo a cambio de un buen pago. La tonada de esta canción fue tomada de una melodía militar escrita en 1860, sin embargo la versión de Joe Hill fue mucho más famosa que hasta los mismos soldados la cantaban en las marchas rumbo a la guerra.
